End of the Year

Carved in the ice by TheMP on 4th of November, 2008

It has been ages since the last update. A lot of university work has been done since I last posted. Plus we’ve started up a little business (zombster.com.au).

Things are moving around on the website as I set up the site as a portfolio. Please do not be alarmed.

Soon all of this university work will be done and I will be much happier. I’m sick of the bureaucracy of the university and welcome change.

New face

Carved in the ice by TheMP on 14th of November, 2007

If you have eyes you’d notice by now I revised the site. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do ever since the Gallery started giving me headaches. At the moment it’s a blog, just a blog. Eventually I’m going to add pages for my portfolio and animations. At the moment though, I’m happy with it just being a blog. ‘Cause you know, it actually works how it’s meant to.

You’ll notice I changed up the sidebar. I’ve got feeds of writers who inspire. Mostly they’re scriptwriters, aside from Neil Gaiman who’s like an everything-writer. Through my studies of film and animation I’ve gathered so much appreciation for screenwriters. It’s such a time consuming, life consuming process. Yet, these writers film time in the day to blog. Tim Minear even puts the scripts of his works up for new writers to learn from. Jane Espenson is a never-ending wealth of spec writing tips. Neil Gaiman’s blog just amuses me. If they weren’t worth reading, I wouldn’t be sticking them up. Now if I can just filter out Joss Whedon’s words of wisdom on Whedonesque.com…

Give me more time and I’ll start sticking up feeds for animators. I’m going to have to start organizing methinks. Bleh.

New photos

Not much, but it is two new photos. Half of the photos on that roll of film were from my trip to Japan. It’s good to finally see them.

Upgrading the Gallery and Wordpress to newest versions.

The next semester starts Monday. I have such an odd schedule this semester.

Time to breathe

Finally, the semester and the 100 page artbook of doom is over. It was fun and all, just very stressful. Trying to balance conflicting views on art and life is quite painful. All the more important to find people who work the same way you do. That’s not to say different views aren’t important, because they are. It’s more of a case of differing values on work methods.

But it’s over, for the time being! Next semester we get to collaborate with the Film students on a “Community Engagement Project”. As much as I look forward to it, I also dread it. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a group that shares the same work ethic as me. Next semester also features a second dose of CGI and Scriptwriting, along with “Advanced Character Animation”. My spidey-sense is telling me that more trees are going to be sacrificed in the name of Animation.

I’ll added three finished works to my gallery from the artbook assignment. These are ones that I have deemed worthy of posting. There are other things, when I get around to it.

As everyone knows by now, my parents are arriving Wednesday and will be spending three weeks visiting me here in Australia. It shall be interesting! (No, I am not subjecting them to the horrors of Vegemite!)

Updates (finally)

Carved in the ice by TheMP on 13th of May, 2007

There are a few hidden updates, like updating the WordPress and Gallery software, and then there are some real updates, like new material in the gallery. For instance, I’ve added an animatic that I worked on at university. Expect screenshots from a group game design project in the coming days that I just handed in this past Tuesday.

What does the rest of the semester hold for me? A HUGE group artbook project for my Pre-Production course. 100 pages of concept art based on a Grimms Fairytale. My group has decided to use “The Devil with Three Golden Hairs” in an islander/Polynesian/Maori theme. (Did you know that the devil has a grandmother? I didn’t!) Also for my CGI Modelling course we have been asked to design and rig an medium to high resolution character, ready to animate for next semester. (She has an arm, a leg and what seems to resemble a hand at the moment. I also have a not very exciting paper and Sound Design project so I’m likely not to mention them again. In any case, the next 5 weeks are busy for me.

Enjoy Mother’s Day and the rest of May. I may not be posting again until June.
